The garden is open 24/7 during summer. And during winter it is open suring daylight hours because we have a big shade cloth protecting the garden from the frost over night which is opened each day.
There are instructions on the notice board on how to harvest.
Our pantry is open 24/7 to share whole foods with each other, please date any baked goods and eggs when harvested.
Our greenhouse and seed library is there to share and collect seedlings and seeds with each other.
We belive in the power of healthy soil to transform lives and grow community (hapori).
In the world today we are disconnected from the land, and our own hearts. We see the systems that sustain us falling apart. Edible streets reconnects us to what we know is possible - how to be kaitiaki (guardians) of our whenua (earth); how to grow kai and take care of ourselves and our whanau.
Zane Crofts is thepassion behind Edible Streets, Trauma, addiction and depression have led him along many paths and it is through the simple act of gardening and sharing his gifts that he finds the resilience to heal himself.
Edible street is a non-profit organisation that grows organic food using the principles of permaculture to turn lawns to regenerative ecological gardens. We provide a hub of edcuation for our whanau, our neighbours, and our community. We believe in the act of giving, so we have set up a food pantry and greenhouse for everyone to share their excess seedlings and food.
Currently we have an Edible Streets permaculture hub in 85 Ottawa Road, Wainoni. Please visit and harvest what you need from our community garden, we are seeking additional sites to activate and happy to share our knowledge.
If you are interested in setting up an edible streets hub outside your property please get intouch we would love to hear from you
